After Election Message – 8 May 2013

Thank you to the many volunteers and supporters who worked tirelessly to organize this campaign and to inform voters about the need for a Justice Center. Unfortunately, the results of the May 7th Special Election did not meet the required super majority of 60% necessary to pass a bond referendum. While we are shown, time and time again, that the majority of Johnson County residents support this issue, there is still a lot of work to be done to keep informing the public about this much-needed project.

Our website and Facebook page will continue to serve as a host for everyone to organize and continue to dialogue with County leaders, community representatives, and all County residents about the importance of a Justice Center being part of a larger initiative to keep Johnson County at the front of the progressive movement when it comes to delivering justice for all residents.

We are unsure of when this issue will be brought back to voters, but do know that it has to be voted on again. The outcome of this most recent vote has maintained the status quo and not solved any of the problems facing our historic courthouse and inadequate jail. We look forward to future conversation with supporters and opponents, alike, and invite all to remain engaged in this issue, online and in your neighborhoods. Change is a long and difficult process, but will happen with all of us working together.

Thank You
