Although some of the “No” group are Republicans opposed to nearly all government spending — and seem to think that we should replace taxes with bake sales — many others are very thoughtful, intelligent, informed, and well-intentioned people, e.g., Karen Kubby, Nick Johnson, Jeff Fox, and John Neff.
I don’t think we should dismiss them as having their heads in the sand. County government needs to listen to them and address their concerns.
DWB does exist in Johnson County! What can we do about it? Perhaps a broad-based citizens group needs to be formed, which includes both “Yes” and “No” representatives, that starts with a clean slate. The people whose names I mentioned above agree that our current court house is inadequate, and that shipping prisoners to Muscatine is not a good alternative.
